American Legion Preamble
For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:
To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a 100-percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in all wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state, and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
WHAT WE DO
HELP VETERANS IN NEED
Part of the mission of the Scenic City Heroes is to help veterans with day-to-day struggles. Whether it is food or clothing or other issues, we try to help all veterans in need.
BUILDILNG COMRADERY
Building comradery is important to veterans. We are a close family as most of us have been since we served. Buddy Checks are performed each month to ensure our veterans have the support they need.
Veteran Center Food Drive
We participate in the Veteran Centers' food drive each year helping to prepare food boxes for distribution to veterans in need at Christmas. We also have ongoing support for a local veteran that distributes food throughout the year to veterans in need.
ABOUT US
Established in 2018, the mission of the newly formed "Scenic City Heroes," a post of the American Legion, addresses the concerns of the community for which it was founded. While SCH welcomes veterans from all over the country and world, its devotion to service remains focused on the most vulnerable communities in our area. Our commitment and devotion to our community inspires us to address the many needs associated with veterans and their families. We will focus on struggling schools in our area, along with churches, businesses, venues, and other areas of our community in need of service and support. We will develop avenues for veterans to address many concerns of health, both mental and physical. We will assist veterans to seek the compensation due to them and their families that they have earned in defense of their country.
The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grassroots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. We are not politically based, however, we advocate for participation in the process. We are not religious-based yet encourage brotherly love and community awareness.
We will provide a venue for the gathering and fellowship of our veterans in an effort to form camaraderie and enforce our patriotic bond. We will support veterans' churches and family events with professional presentations. We will use the proceeds of our business endeavors to invest in other activities designed to enhance an atmosphere of progression amongst the city of Chattanooga.
We will provide assistance to the school system in the education of our children. We will provide after-school programs to assist single parents with their children, giving instruction and encouragement in helping the children to develop both mentally and physically into proud and productive adults and members of their community. We will provide mentoring to at-risk young adults as well as act as in-school mentors when needed.
We will partner with local and national outlets that have long supported our community and enthusiastically invite new supporters. We will seek our supporter's commitment to our concerns as we continue to support and patronize their establishments. We will also promote employment opportunities for our veterans with companies that are "veteran-friendly."
Scenic City Heroes' aim is to assist every veteran with their transition into civilian life and to offer them assistance while adjusting to often new surroundings. We want to provide daily solutions for daily problems that veterans face. We ask the support and commitment of our fellow veterans, their families, their communities, and their churches, to join us in uplifting all of our communities and to enhance the future of our youth through hard work and dedication to a just cause.
